In 1979, during the first energy crisis Dane Harman designed and built a stove to heat his home. The stove heated so well that his neighbors asked him to build one for them too. Dane agreed, and was soon so overcome with an abundance of orders, that within a short time he outgrew the shop that was in his garage, quit his day job as a welder and started the Harman Stove Company. Twenty six years and 40 stove models later, Harman Stoves is an undisputed leader in stove manufacturing. The Company has grown from heating a few homes in central Pennsylvania to heating tens of thousands of homes and businesses across America, Canada, Western Europe and the British Isles.

Harman pellet stoves burn many different grades of wood pellets. Most models come with automatic temperature control and ignition and all have large ash pans that hold the ash from approximately 1 ton of high-grade (low-ash) pellets. An optional battery backup provides up to 8 hours of uninterrupted power, according to the manufacturer. Optional hopper extensions can nearly double hopper capacity, extending the period between refills to several days. Harman pellet stoves have a suggested heating capacity of 1,400 to 2,200 square feet, depending on the model. Harman also manufactures pellet boilers and hot air furnaces with a heating capacity of 2,500 square feet.

 American Made

While other stove companies are busy outsourcing parts from China, Dane Harman is adamant toward building USA-made products and keeping jobs for American workers.  The Harman Stove Company is known for being at the cutting edge of technology using robotic welding, laser cutting, CNC molding, 3D CAD/CAM engineering and a highly computerized manufacturing process to ensure that each stove is made with unmatched precision and quality. In early 2006 Harman broke ground on a new state-of-the-art manufacturing facility just a few miles away from their home and current facility. Global warming and the biomass alternative There is no simple solution to global warming, but using biomass fuels is one way to cut it.
